Individual counselling allows you to focus on particular issues that you may be struggling to resolve on your own. Counselling may be brief and solution focused, or may be needed over the longer term to cope with life stressors such as separation/divorce, parenting or step-parenting concerns, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, employment issues, sexual identity or coming out issues. Working with you as a team, individual counselling can help you develop a better self-image, adjust to changes in your life, and achieve personal growth.
With almost one in every three Canadian couples (31%) 1 divorcing and the rate of divorce being slightly higher in remarriages, it's clear that couples face many challenges and obstacles to staying together. Couples can improve their relationships, enhance communication, and deal more positively with issues such as balancing work and family commitments, parenting, step-parenting, same sex issues, finances, and in-laws.
Another reason that couples sometimes seek couples counselling is to help them decide if they should separate or, if they have already decided to separate, to do so as amicably as possible.
Children and teens are experiencing increasing level of stress in their lives. This can limit them in achieving their full potential, negatively impact their relationships, decrease performance at school, and increase parent-child conflict at home. Difficulties may include anxiety, depression, behaviour problems, family or peer difficulties, parental separation/divorce, eating disorders, obesity, bullying, learning disabilities, or attention difficulties. Counselling can help children and teens learn valuable coping skills that will last throughout their lives.
